The Coffee House Gig

Tonight was our first gig, at the Coffee House, organised by Ignite. It was a relaxed evening, with lots of coffee and lots of chatting.

First up, Rhian and Trys played a good set of songs, including quite a few from my youth. I particularly liked Another Day in Paradise; an unusual choice for an acoustic set.

We played a few of our own, and a few others:
  • Happy
  • Wide, Wide World
  • Sand Through My Fingers
  • Bollard
  • Perfect Day
  • Ocean Eyes
  • Lift Home
  • Martyrs and Thieves
  • Walking on Sunshine
  • Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This
  • When Nothing Satisfies

For a first gig, I think it went reasonably well. Sweet Dreams was really fun; although originally an electro-pop song, it works just as well with an acoustic guitar - the sign of a good song.

It was nice to give Lift Home it's first outing. I wrote it in 1996 when my Cortina broke down on the way to work.

Ocean Eyes was probably my favourite of the night. Before we started, loads of people were chatting, but when I quietly started playing, everyone stopped and listened. It's a really calm song, but quite fiddly to play. Mel and I wrote it together; I had already come up with the main guitar bit (which my wife thinks sounds like the theme tune for a gardening programme), and Mel went off and wrote the words and tune. We then worked out the rest of it at the next rehearsal.

Hopefully we'll be back in a month or two, so we'll work on some more songs for then.

First gig

We're playing an acoustic set at a new café in Uckfield on 25th January, 2008. It's going to be a small, intimate gathering, so we're working on the set list accordingly. Should be fun.
